Streams OnLine Help
Streams OnLine (SOL) is a collaboration in which students and teachers can share their writing and art via the Internet. Collaborations can be within one class, between classes, and between schools.There are two ways to participate in Streams OnLine:
- compose work for others to see
- read what others have written and leave a comment for the author and all to see

How to Login to a SOL Collaboration
- Launch Netscape.
- Open http://sol.tenpennyplayers.org
- Click on "public collaboration"
- Login with a username/password (i.e. red_teacher/guest)
How to Read Written Works
- Search for something to read by choosing:
Sections or
Authors on the navigation bar.
- Click on a title to select something to read.
Scroll down to see if anyone has left a comment.
Read the comments left by others.
- If you want to leave a comment follow the instructions below.
If you want to move on to select something else, repeat step #2.
How to Leave a Comment
- After you read something you are interested in, scroll down to the SUBMIT A COMMENT screen

- Type your comment
- PREVIEW your comment to make sure it looks okay (optional)
- Click the BACK button on the Netscape menu
- Make any necessary changes
- PREVIEW again just to be sure
- Click on BACK button on the Netscape menu
- Tell your teacher you are ready to submit your comment.
- The teacher will look at what you have written, discuss it with you, and approve it if it is okay.
- You can hit the SUBMIT button before asking your teacher to approve it and your teacher will approve it later, but you will have to wait.
- Your work will not be visible until your teacher approves it.
How to Compose Original Work
- Select the COMPOSE button on the navigation bar

- Type in the Title for your work: remember to use Capital Letters for the important words in your title.
- Type in (or copy/paste from a TEXT file) your submission.
- SCROLL DOWN and put a check mark in all the SECTIONS you think your work belongs in.

- PREVIEW your work to see if it looks alright.
- Use the BACK button to go back to your original document screen and make any corrections.
- PREVIEW your work again.
- If it is ready, tell your teacher you are ready to have your work approved.
- The teacher will look at what you have written, discuss it with you, and approve it if it is okay.
- You can hit the SUBMIT button before asking your teacher to approve it and your teacher will approve it later, but you will have to wait.
- Your work will been by all only after your teacher approves it.
How to Logout
- In order to exit from Streams OnLine, you must EXIT NETSCAPE.
- Your userid and password are cached.
- If you do not exit Netscape, another user can impersonate you on Streams Online.
